SC accepts Lodha committee’s recommendations on structural reforms in BCCI

The Supreme Court has accepted major recommendations of Lodha Committee on reforms in BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India), the world’s richest cricketing body.
The committee had submitted its recommendations to Supreme Court in January 2016. The committee was constituted by SC to bring structural reforms in the country after it had come under the scanner for its opaque functioning and conflict of interests among its top office-bearers.
Approved Recommendations are

Barring ministers and civil servants and those above 70 years of age from becoming BCCI members. An office-bearer of BCCI cannot hold a post for more than three years.
Parliament to decide whether BCCI should come under the Right to Information Act (RTI). There should be a player’s association in the BCCI
Disallowing BCCI office-bearer from holding dual posts simultaneously i.e. in a state cricket association and in the BCCI.
Only to team representing the respective states. Each state should have only one vote.
Member of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) to be included in the BCCI’s governing council.
