“Sankalp Parva” begins

On June 28, 2020, the initiative to plant trees called “Sankalp Parva” began, The initiative is to run between June 28, 2020 and July 12, 2020.

Highlights

The initiative was launched by Ministry of Culture. Under the initiative at least five trees are to be planted either in office campus or where ever possible in order to ensure a healthy environment to the country.

About the initiative

The initiative has identified the following five trees

  • Bargad
  • Awla
  • Peepal
  • Asok
  • Bel

The trees were chosen for their herbal heritage. With the monsoon season just begun, this is the right time to launch the initiative.

About the trees

Bargad is banyan tree. The tree is significant to Hinduism. The Hindus believe that the leaf of the banyan tree is the resting place of Lord Krishna. Peepal tree has great significance in Buddhism and Jainism. They believe that when there is no hope left, a Peepal tree can come to rescue.

Ashoka tree is often planted in Buddhist monasteries as the Buddhists believe that Lord Buddha was born under a Peepal tree.
