Sanjeev Kumar Singla Appointed India’s Ambassador to France

Sanjeev Kumar Singla has been appointed as India’s new Ambassador to France, taking over from his previous role as Ambassador to Israel. This change comes during a sensitive time due to the ongoing Israel-Palestine crisis. His new position reflects India’s careful diplomatic strategies in the Middle East during this critical period.

Appointment as Ambassador to France

Sanjeev Kumar Singla is an experienced diplomat from the 1997 batch of the Indian Foreign Service (IFS). He will be starting his new role in France soon. His years of experience in diplomacy have prepared him well for this important job.

Diplomatic Tenure in Israel

Sanjeev Singla served as India’s Ambassador to Israel starting in October 2019. During his time there, he focused on maintaining strong relations between India and Israel. He also supported the Indian community living in Israel and worked through the complicated issues surrounding the Israel-Palestine conflict. Because of his careful handling of these sensitive topics, he became known as an “expert on Israel.”

Managing India-Israel Relations

While in Israel, Singla worked hard to keep India’s foreign policy balanced, even when there were crises. He helped address the needs of around 18,000 Indian professionals and students living in Israel. Additionally, he engaged with the 85,000 Jews of Indian origin who reside in Israel, strengthening ties between the communities.

Role as Aide to Prime Minister Modi

Before becoming an ambassador, Singla was the private secretary to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for five years after Modi became Prime Minister in 2014. In this role, he contributed to important decision-making and helped shape India’s foreign policies concerning West Asia.

Diverse Diplomatic Experience

In addition to his ambassadorial roles, Singla has a wide range of experience in various positions within Indian Missions. He has worked in places like Paris, Dhaka, and Geneva. His prior experience in Paris makes him well-qualified for his new ambassadorial role in France.

Contributions to the Ministry of External Affairs

Sanjeev Singla has also held key positions in the Ministry of External Affairs, including working on the US desk and serving as a director in the Foreign Secretary’s office. His broad understanding of global diplomatic relations equips him to effectively represent India in France.
