Samsung Becomes the 2nd Largest Smartphone Brand in India in April-June Quarter

South Korean major Samsung has become the 2nd largest player in India with a market share of 26% in the second quarter of the current year i.e. in the April-June period, as per the Counterpoint Research Report published.

This has been attributed to the reduced supply from some Chinese brands and also the anti-China sentiment prevailing in the country, especially after the stand-off in the borders.

Decoding the Report

Samsung has been able to register its higher-ever market share in the past two years owing to the fact that smartphone demand has increased during the lockdown period and the company was already equipped with all the infrastructure to meet the booming demand. However, Xiaomi logged 29% market share in the Indian market making it the topmost brand in this quarter.

The reasons for the rise of Samsung can be attributed to its new marketing channel combining the offline partners and the online marketplaces, new schemes such as Samsung Care+, etc. It also has a diversified supply chain compared to its competitors enabling it to maintain a steady flow of components even during the pandemic situation.

Vivo has been ranked at the third position with around 17% market share. But overall the sale of the smartphones has declined by a whopping 51% due to the pandemic and also no shipment could be done during the pandemic.

Realme is in the fourth position in the survey with around 11% market share, declining because of manufacturing constraints during the lockdown.
