Sagar Parikrama Yatra Phase-V
The Sagar Parikrama Yatra Phase-V, an ambitious initiative by the Government of India, was recently launched by Union Minister Parshottam Rupala. This phase aims to address the challenges faced by fishermen and other stakeholders, promoting their economic upliftment through various government schemes.
Launching the Journey in Karanja, Raigad District
The inauguration of the Sagar Parikrama Yatra Phase-V took place in Karanja, a coastal town situated in Maharashtra’s Raigad district. The event witnessed the participation of around 6,000 fishermen, fish farmers, and distinguished guests, emphasizing the importance of this endeavor.
Exploring Coastal Regions
The Sagar Parikrama Yatra Phase-V encompasses a comprehensive route, covering several coastal regions. The journey includes visits to iconic locations such as the Gateway of India, Karanja in Raigad District, Mirkarwada in Ratnagiri District, Devgad in Sindhudurg District, Malvan, Vasco, Mormugaon, and Canacona in South Goa. This extensive exploration aims to foster connectivity and highlight the significance of these regions in trade, agriculture, and education.
Resolving Challenges and Promoting Economic Upliftment
At the core of the Sagar Parikrama journey is the resolve to address the challenges faced by the fishing community and other stakeholders along the coastal belt. The government aims to facilitate their economic upliftment through various schemes, including the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) and the Kisan Credit Card (KCC). Progressive fishermen, especially those from coastal areas, will receive certificates and sanctions related to these schemes, recognizing their contributions and providing support for their growth.
The Journey’s Progress and Impact
With the launch of Phase-V, the Sagar Parikrama program has now completed four phases. This unprecedented initiative has successfully covered 19 locations across Gujarat, Daman & Diu, Maharashtra, and Karnataka. By encompassing diverse states and union territories, the program has garnered support from all stakeholders, highlighting its significant impact on coastal communities.
