Sadbhavna Diwas: Birth anniversary of late Rajiv Gandhi celebrated
Every year 20 August is celebrated as Sadbhavana Diwas or Communal Harmony Day to commemorate birth anniversary of late Rajiv Gandhi, former Prime Minister of India. This day is observed to encourage national integration, peace, affection and communal harmony among Indian people of all religions.
On this observance, close family members and senior Congress party members pay homage to his memory and legacy by laying down wreaths and garlands on Veer Bhoomi, where he was cremated.

20 August 2019 marks 75th birth anniversary of Rajiv Gandhi. On occasion of Sadbhavna Diwas 2019-

Rajiv Gandhi National Sadbhavana Award
In 1992, a year after Rajiv Gandhi’s assassination the All India Congress Committee (AICC) of Indian National Congress (INC) instituted Rajiv Gandhi National Sadbhavana award in memory of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.
This award is presented every year to those who have devoted their life in understanding and promoting social harmony. It constitutes a citation and cash Prize of Rs 10 Lakh.
About Rajiv Gandhi
He became the youngest ever prime minister of India at the age of 40. He took over as 6th prime minister after his mother and the prime minister Indira Gandhi was assassinated by her bodyguard in 1984.
He was assassinated by a Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) suicide bomber in May 1991, during an election rally in Sriperumbudur in Tamil Nadu.
His death anniversary is observed as Anti-Terrorism Day.
