The Sacred Portal was launched by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. The portal was launched to cater senior citizens seeking job opportunities.

What is SACRED Portal?

SACRED portal is an online market place where employers and job seekers meet. It mainly targets the senior citizens. The public and private sector enterprises can share the demands on the portal. The senior citizens can make their experiences and knowledge to the public and private sector enterprises.

What are the key features of Sacred Portal?

  • SACRED stands for Senior Able Citizens for Re – Employment in Dignity.
  • The portal allows Indian citizens of age more than 60 years to register on the portal. And the portal allows them to find jobs and work opportunities.
  • Apart from the senior citizens, the portal will also serve Self Help Groups, employers and senior citizens gaining skills.
  • The Government of India has provided ten crores of rupees for the development of the portal. Also, it has allocated two crores of rupees for the maintenance of the portal. The maintenance fund is to be provided in five years.
  • The portal was developed based on the recommendations made by the Empowered Expert Committee report on startups for the elderly.

How will SACRED Portal benefit the senior citizens?

  • The portal provided opportunities to the senior citizens to fulfil their self actuation and financial needs after retirement.
  • The portal consolidates the relevant employment opportunities across sectors that are specific to the job seekers.
  • The portal offers flexibility to get re-engaged with employers.
  • The portal also benefits the senior citizens through new – skilling and up – skilling of “on – demand” areas of expertise.
  • It leverages the benefits of collaboration of senior citizens with their communities of their interest and also boosts knowledge sharing.

What is the need for SACRED Portal?

  • The elderly population of India is increasing. Currently, there are 110 million senior citizens in the country. This is to increase to 319 million by 2050. Therefore, it is essential to create an ecosystem that supports the needs of the elderly in the country.
  • In India, more than 50% of senior citizen are active. They have experience, energy and time. These resources are of great asset for the development of Indian economy when used in the right way. They can very well be used by business enterprises looking for stable employees.
