About the Indian Coast Guard
The Indian Coast Guard was formed in 1978 and works under the Ministry of Defence. Its main jobs are to keep our seas safe, control pollution, and conduct search and rescue missions. The Coast Guard has five areas: Northwest, Western, Eastern, Southwest, and Andaman & Nicobar, and it has more than 150 ships and 62 aircraft. They celebrate Coast Guard Day on February 1 each year.
