Russia & Bangladesh ink MOU’s for Bangladesh’s first nuclear power plant
Bangladesh and Russia inked two MoU’s as a measure to step up co-operation to build Bangladesh’s first nuclear power plant. According to the MOUs:
- Russia will assist Bangladesh in developing the human resource required in nuclear power sector which include different tiers of managerial, technical and operational personnel, and finally developing broad-based academic and training capabilities in Bangladesh
- Information Centres will be established in Bangladesh to generate awareness among people, especially the younger generation, on various aspects of nuclear energy and nuclear power plants, including functioning, maintenance and safety measures in the nuclear plants
- Bangladesh has passed its first Atomic Energy Control Bill-2012 containing provisions to set up the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Regulatory Authority in direction to build the country’s first Nuke plant in Roopur with 2 Nuclear reactors each with a capacity of 1000 Megawatt
