RTI for NRIs made easier
Indians living abroad can now without difficulty hunt for information from public authorities in their home country via the RTI (Right to Information) Act.
What was the problem for NRIs seeking information via RTI?
The RBI had already previously permitted NRIs to purchase Indian Postal Orders (IPOs) via credit cards. Whilst Indian citizens living in India were able to seek information via the RTI Act since it was passed in 2005, NRIs were having a tough time arranging for the mandatory fees which is supposed to be paid either via cash or Indian Postal Orders (IPOs).
Now, what is the provision provided in order solve this?
In order to ascertain that NRIs can use the RTI comfortably, the Indian Government has in principle settled to provide Indian Postal Orders (IPOs) via the Internet on payment in foreign currency.
