Rs 1,614 Crore Contract for Next-Generation Offshore Patrol Vessels

The Ministry of Defence has signed a Rs 1,614 crore contract with Mazagon Dockyard Shipbuilders Ltd for the procurement of six next-generation offshore patrol vessels (NGOPVs) for the Indian Coast Guard (ICG). The acquisition aims to enhance the Coast Guard’s maritime security capabilities.

Contract Details: The contract, signed under the buy (Indian-IDDM) category, is valued at a total cost of Rs 1,614.89 crore. The NGOPVs will be built by Mazagon Dockyard Shipbuilders Ltd.
Purpose of Acquisition: The six NGOPVs are intended to replace existing aging offshore patrol vessels (four vessels) and augment the Coast Guard’s fleet (two vessels). The acquisition is aligned with the government’s focus on strengthening maritime security.
