RISAT-2B Successfully Launched
Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has successfully launched the RISAT-2B satellite. It is an earth observation satellite which adds to India’s capability to observe the earth in all weathers and all conditions.
About the Launch
- The RISAT or Radar Imaging Satellite is equipped with a sensor known as ‘synthetic aperture radar’ to produce ‘radar images’.
- The synthetic aperture radar in the satellite sends out hundreds of radio signals every second towards the earth and captures the reflected signals to create a radio image, which can then be used by computers to build a real image.
- Since the very large wavelength radio waves are not obstructed by clouds, dust or similar other obstacles in the atmosphere, they produce reliable images during day and night and all seasons.
- PSLV-C46 successfully injected RISAT-2B precisely in the designated orbit.
The images from the RISAT-2B would be used for applications in agriculture, forestry and disaster management support together with catering to the demands of the national security agencies.
RISAT Series
RISAT-1 was launched only in 2012 and is no longer operational. The first one to be launched RISAT-2 was launched in 2009.
