Ripu Daman Bevli named as Plogging Ambassador of India
Union Minister for Youth Affairs & Sports (MYAS) Kiren Rijiju felicitated Ripu Daman Bevli, popularly known as Plogman of India and named him as Plogging Ambassador of India. Sports Minister also launched nation-wide Plogging Ambassador Mission under which, Indians who have been running and cleaning their cities/ towns/ districts, will be nominated as Plogging Ambassadors of their region.
Ripu Daman Bevli started plogging in 2017, started Fit India Plogging Run with the aim to make India litter-free. In about 2 months, he and his team have cleaned up 50 cities and covered over 1000km, collecting 2.7 tonnes of garbage.
What is Plog Run?
It is a unique way of picking up garbage while jogging. It was added to Fit India Movement as a unique way of combining cleanliness and fitness. Plogging Run combines the Fit India Movement and Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
First Fit India Plogging Run was held on 2 October 2019 in which more than 36 lakh people participated in over 62,000 locations across India. It was organised with combined efforts of Sports Authority of India (SAI), National Service Scheme (NSS), Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS), NGOs, Kendriya Vidalaya (KVs) and several other organizations joining in.
