Restored Pyramid of Djoser
Egypt reopened the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Pyramid of Djoser, after the recent completion of the restoration process that started in 2006.
Pharaoh Djoser
Pharaoh Djoser was an ancient pharaoh from the 3rd Dynasty of Egypt. During the reign of the 3rd Dynasty, Egypt was going through a period of prosperity and the lands of Upper and Lower Egypt were united- sometime around 2686 BC. His most famous monument was the Step Pyramid at Saqqara.
Pyramid of Djoser
The Pyramid of Djoser or the Step Pyramid of Saqqara is a 27th century BC archaeological remain located north-west of the city of Memphis n Egypt. It has 6 tiers and 4 sides. It was possibly built by a vizier, Imhotep for the burial of Pharaoh Djoser. It is the first monumental structure made of stone in the region as opposed to mud-brick.
Restoration Project
The 4,700 year old Step Pyramid was mainly damaged due to the 1992 earthquake. Political unrest and vandalism also contributed to its damage. The restoration project cost about 104 million LE (Egyptian Pound). It was started in 2006 and has taken nearly 14 years for completion.
