Regional Symposium on Child Protection, Safety and Child Welfare
The Ministry of Women and Child Development (MWCD), Government of India, recently organized a one-day Regional Symposium on Child Protection, Safety, and Child Welfare. The symposium aimed to raise awareness and outreach about child protection, safety, and welfare issues.
Participation of Nine States and UTs
The symposium witnessed the participation of nine states and union territories (UTs). Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Chandigarh, Jammu & Kashmir, and Ladakh were among the states and UTs that actively took part in the event.
Launch of Online Training Module on the Juvenile Justice Act
The MWCD, in collaboration with LBSNAA, Mussoorie, inaugurated and launched an online Training Module on the Juvenile Justice Act. This module, available on the Karmayogi Igot platform, aims to sensitize and build the capacity of all stakeholders involved in child safety, protection, and welfare. It will serve as a vital resource for enhancing their understanding of the provisions concerning child safety.
Focus on “Mission Vatsalya” and Increased Support
“Mission Vatsalya” aims to provide a security net and service delivery structure to children in difficult circumstances. Under this initiative, the MWCD has increased the monthly support for non-institutional childcare from Rs 2000 to Rs 4000 per month, ensuring better care and support for vulnerable children.
Fast Track Special Courts for Child Protection
The symposium highlighted the establishment of 1023 Fast Track Special Courts (FTSCs) to protect children from offenses of sexual assault and harassment. Among them, 389 Exclusive POCSO Courts have been set up to ensure expeditious trial and disposal of cases related to rape and the POCSO Act, 2012. These specialized courts play a crucial role in delivering justice and safeguarding the rights of children.
NIMHANS’ Role in Providing Mental Health Support
NIMHANS, the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences, has been actively involved in providing psycho-social care and mental health interventions for children in distress. Their contribution is instrumental in addressing the psychological well-being of children and offering the necessary support they require.
