Recycling of Ships Act, 2019

Recycling of Ships Act, 2019 was enacted for the regulation of ship recycling and accession to the Hong Kong International Convention for Safe and Environmentally Sound Recycling of Ships, 2009. Since its enactment, around 90 ship-recycling yards at Alang in Gujarat have received HKC-compliant certificates. Now, India is aspiring to capture 50 per cent of the global share in the ship recycling market and generate 1.5 lakh jobs.
