Recent Missions of Tourism Ministry
The Government of India is planning to bring a new tourism policy. The policy aims to provide better facilities and services to the tourists visiting India. It will create five missions in the country.
What are the missions of the tourism policy?
- National Green Tourism Mission: To bring sustainability in tourism
- National Digital Tourism Mission: To digitize the tourism industry
- Sectoral Mission on Skill Development: To provide qualified manpower and trained professionals to the tourism industry
- National Mission on Destination Management: To provide coordination among public and private stakeholder
- National Mission on Tourism MSMEs: To facilitate startups and MSMEs
Other measures
- India is to provide five lakh free tourist visas to kick start the functioning of the tourist sector in the country.
- The Ministry of Tourism is to launch Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav based programmes showcasing India’s culture and history. The ministry is to provide incentives to achieve this.
- Tourism Week was organised between January 3 and January 15, 2022.
- The Tourism ministry is to launch different initiatives partnering with different stakeholders to facilitate visits to India.
- India is to host G-20 meeting in 2022. The preparatory meeting of the meet is to be held in different tourist spots or cities.
Role of Expo 2020 Dubai in Indian Tourism
India participated in Expo 2020 organised by Dubai actively. The Expo 2020 is the first largest in MEASA after the COVID times. MEASA is Middle East, Africa and South Asia region. It is essential for India to actively participate in such foreign expos to sustain tourism. Take UAE for instance. India receives 50,000 UAE tourists annually. And UAE receives 6 million Indian tourists annually. And India – UAE tourism sector is one of the largest tourism sectors in the world.
Target
The Government of India is expecting that the tourism sector is to contribute 500 billion USD towards the country’s GDP by 2030. And the government is to work towards achieving this goal.
