Rajindar Singh Dhatt Receives Points of Light Award
On a special occasion during the UK-India Week celebration, Rajindar Singh Dhatt, a veteran soldier, was presented with the prestigious Points of Light award by the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Rishi Sunak.
Recognizing Dhatt’s Dedication
Rajindar Singh Dhatt has been the driving force behind the “Undivided Indian Ex-Servicemen’s Association,” an organization focused on uniting British Indian war veterans. The Points of Light award acknowledges Dhatt’s exceptional service and his relentless efforts to bring together these veterans.
A Life of Service
Dhatt, currently based in Hounslow, southwest London, was born in pre-Partition India in 1921. During the Second World War, he joined the British Indian Army, demonstrating his dedication to serving his country. Through his commitment and hard work, Dhatt climbed the ranks and achieved the esteemed position of Havildar Major (Sergeant Major) in 1943.
Fighting for Freedom
Dhatt’s valorous actions led him to the battlefield of Kohima in northeast India. He fought alongside the Allied Forces, bravely supporting their mission to break through the Japanese defenses. Dhatt’s contributions during this challenging period were vital to the war efforts.
Continuing Contributions
After the war, Dhatt returned to India before eventually settling in London with his family. He remained devoted to the welfare of veterans, establishing an online community for them to share personal stories and connect with one another. Dhatt’s involvement with war veteran charities, including the Royal British Legion and the Taxi Charity for Military Veterans, further showcases his dedication to supporting his fellow servicemen.
