Rajasthan CM launches Indira Rasoi scheme to provide meals to the needy

The Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Ashok Gehlot has launched the “Indira Rasoi scheme” in the state during the commemoration of the 76th birth anniversary of former PM of India, Rajiv Gandhi.

What is the ‘Indira Rasoi scheme’?

The scheme aims at providing nutritious food to the urban poor population for Rs. 8 per mill. The cost of each plate is Rs. 20 but the government will provide Rs. 12 as a subsidy. It has a target of serving 4.87 crore people in a year.

Key highlights of the scheme

  • The needy people will be served pulses and vegetables each with a quantity of 100 grams and 250 grams of chapati with pickles per plate.
  • The state is going to have a total of 358 such kitchens in 213 urban local bodies.

Similar schemes

In 2019, former CM of Rajasthan Vasundhara Raje launched a similar type of programme named “Annapurna Rasoi scheme”, with the objective of serving food at subsidized rates across the state.
