Radiocaesium

Radiocaesium or radioactive caesium (Cs-137) is a radioactive isotope of the element caesium. It is a common product of the fission reaction of uranium-235 in nuclear reactors. In a recent study by Greenpeace, most of the special decontamination area of Fukushima still remain contaminated with radioactive caesium. Only 15% of the core site in the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Plant has been decontaminated in a decade’s time. The nuclear plant was the site of the triple reactor meltdown and radioactive contamination in 2011.
