Radha Vinod Raju, NIA founding director passes away

imageRadha Vinod Raju, the founding director of National Investigation Agency (NIA) passed away. He was Born in Kochi on July 27, 1949.

He began his career as an officer in the Bank of India. In 1975, he joined Indian Police Service, J&K cadre. As an IPS officer, R.V.Raju served on various top positions such as, SSP of Jammu district, DIG of South Kashmir Range and IG of Jammu.

R.V.Raju also lead the special investigation team (SIT) which investigated the assassination of former PM Rajiv Gandhi. The team nabbed LTTE culprit involved in Rajiv Gandhi assassination.

He received many prestigious awards and medals that include:

  • Police Medal for Meritorious Service in 1992
  • The President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service in 1999
  • Director-General’s Commendation Certificate in January 2000
  • Sher-e-Kashmir Medal for Meritorious Services in 2003

National Investigation Agency (NIA)

  • Founded on December 31, 2008
  • It is Counter terrorism law enforcement agency of India
  • Increasing incidents of terrorist attacks and activities, specially the brutal Mumbai terror attack (26 November 2011), prompted the government establish NIA. The agency is devoted to keep watch on terrorist activities in the country.
