Notes:
The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs has notified a uniform goods and services tax rate of 12 per cent on fabrics, apparel, and footwear.
The new rate aims to correct the inverted duty structure and the changed rates will come into effect from January 1, 2022. Earlier the GST Rate was 5 per cent for sale value up to Rs 1,000 per piece in the case of apparels and per pair in the case of footwear.

El Salvador has decided to issue the world’s first sovereign Bitcoin bonds and build Bitcoin City, which will be free of income, property and capital gains taxes.
El Salvador plans to issue $1 billion in tokenised US-dollar denominated 10-year bonds. Half of the funds of the ‘volcano bond’ will be converted to Bitcoin and the other half will be used for infrastructure and Bitcoin mining powered by geothermal energy.

The Joint Parliamentary Committee on Personal Data Protection (PDP) Bill 2019 has defended the controversial exemption clause that allows the Government to keep any of its agencies outside the purview of the law.
The committee, headed by P P Chaudhary, has retained the Clause with minor change. The report will now be presented in the Parliament.

Australia signed an agreement with the USA and UK allowing the exchange of sensitive “naval nuclear propulsion information” between their nations.
This three-way deal gives Australia US nuclear-powered submarine technology. It is the first agreement on the technology to be publicly signed since the three countries announced the formation of a defence alliance, AUKUS.

Tamil Nadu became the most successful team in the history of Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy history as they clinched their 3rd title in New Delhi.
They defeated their rivals Karnataka in a thrilling final with Tamil Nadu’s Shahrukh Khan’s last-ball six. The Tamil Nadu Team played under the captaincy of Vijay Shankar and he would remain the Captain in the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy.

The Indian Army launched Operation Snow Leopard after China failed to move back and restore status quo ante in eastern Ladakh.
Col Santosh Babu was awarded Mahavir Chakra posthumously for resisting Chinese Army attack in Galwan valley in Ladakh sector during Operation Snow Leopard. Colonel Babu was the Commanding Officer of 16 Bihar regiment, which was deployed in Galwan Valley for the Operation.

The Social Democrat Magdalena Andersson was Sweden’s first female prime minister, who has recently resigned from the top post in less than 12 hours.
She was forced to resign as the PM because of the collapse of the coalition when the Green party, a minority in the coalition, had quit.

The Government of India’s Union health ministry has recently released the results of the fifth round of the National Family and Health Survey (NFHS-5), conducted in two phases between 2019 and 2021.
As per the survey, in 2019-2021, there are 1020 women for 1000 men in the country. Also, the total fertility rate has come down to 2.

India’s premier think tank – NITI Aayog has recently published a Discussion Paper titled “Digital Banks:A Proposal for Licensing & Regulatory Regime for India”. The paper has been prepared in consultation with experts in banking, law, technology and with ministerial consultations
NITI Aayog has invited comments on the paper and the last date for acceptance of comments is set as 31st December 2021.

The United Kingdom recently unveiled its ‘Future Soldier’ modernisation plan, in order to increase its military presence in the world.
The country has released plans to improve manpower serving the military and future investments in weapons. The country’s defence ministry also announced an additional investment in the military equipment worth 8.6 billion pounds ($11.46 billion), during the next decade.
