United Kingdom has recently pledged to ban the sale of new petrol and diesel cars and vans from 2030.
This deadline is five years earlier than previously pledged by Britain. Earlier, the Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced “Green revolution”, to cut emissions to net-zero by 2050. Last year, Britain became the first G7 country to set a net-zero emission target by 2050.

Twitter has recently rolled out tweets that disappear in 24 hours called ‘Fleets’ globally, on the lines of other sites like Snapchat, Facebook and Instagram.
The social media giant Twitter has tested the feature in Brazil, Italy, India, and South Korea, before launching the feature globally. These tweets cannot be retweeted and they will not earn likes similar to the older tweets.

The theme of this year is ‘Sustainable sanitation and climate change’.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a Tech Summit in Bengaluru via video conference. It was organised by the Government of Karnataka along with Software Technology Parks of India (STPI).
Karnataka Innovation and Technology Society (KITS), Karnataka’s Vision Group on IT, Biotechnology & Start-Up are also involved in organising the summit. The theme of this year’s Tech summit is “Next is Now”.

Union minister Hardeep Singh Puri has recently launched the Safaimitra Suraksha Challenge, to ensure no life of any sewer or septic tank cleaner is lost due to ‘hazardous’ cleaning.
The campaign is launched on the occasion of World Toilet Day, in 243 cities across the country. In the virtual event, representative of the 243 cities pledged to mechanize all sewer and septic tank cleaning operations by 30th April 2021.

Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, National Capital Region Transport Corporation Limited and the New Development Bank signed a loan agreement for lending 500 million dollars for the ‘Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System Project’.
The Rapid Transit System will provide a fast, safe and comfortable public transport system in the National Capital Region.

Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh has been selected for the ‘Best Marine District’ award, by the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying.
Kalahandi of Odisha as Best Inland District and Nagaon of Assam had been declared as Best Hilly and North Eastern District. The award would be presented at the World Fisheries Day 2020 celebrations at New Delhi.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has launched a new rural housing project named “Maha Awas Yojana”.
Under the new scheme, as many as 8.82 lakh rural houses will be built in a period of 100 days. The outlay of the project is estimated to be Rs 4000 crore. The state’s Department of Rural Development will undertake this project.

The G-20 countries approved the Debt Service Suspension Initiative (DSSI) to temporarily suspend the government-to-government debt payments to 73 countries. It was extended till June 30, 2021.
The G-20 Finance Ministers virtual meeting was recently held and India’s Union Minister for Finance & Corporate Affairs Nirmala Sitharaman participated in it. She highlighted about the DSSI initiative under the G20 Saudi Arabian Presidency.

Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit has recently promulgated an ordinance to ban online gaming in the State.
The State government has submitted a proposal to the Governor to promulgate ordinance by amending several related acts. It provides for fine of Rs 5000 and an imprisonment for 6 months, for those found to be engaged in the act. Persons who are betting in cyber space can also be banned.
