The United Nations received the official request of Turkey to rebrand itself to ‘Turkiye’ in all languages.
The UN chief’s spokesperson announced that the change is immediate. Over the past few years, the country sought to change the branding on its products from “Made in Turkey” to “Made in Turkiye.”

Notes:
The United Nations General Assembly had decided to mark June 4 as the International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression in 1982.
The day acknowledges the pain and suffering experienced by the children who are victims of emotional, physical and mental abuse. According to the United Nations, every child should get the proper environment to develop a good personality.

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has directed the West Bengal government to close all hotels and restaurants or camping stations inside the Buxa Tiger Reserve within two months.
NGT stated that the conversion of forest villages to revenue ones cannot be allowed to permit commercial activities in such areas. The forest department had informed the NGT that the activities are confined to areas which were once ‘forest villages’ and designated as ‘revenue villages’ in 2014.

Reserve Bank of India (RBI) issued a framework for scale-based regulation for NBFCs wherein the structure comprises four layers based on their size, activity, and perceived riskiness.
RBI recently announced specified rates of provision for outstanding loans extended by ‘NBFC-Upper Layer’.  The guidelines are for provisioning for standard assets by large Non-Banking Financial Companies (NBFCs) due to their key role in the financial system.

US Vice President Kamala Harris announced a new USD 1.9 billion in private sector funding aimed at boosting jobs to reduce migration from Central America.
The announcement was made at Latin America summit in Los Angeles. The fresh funding is in addition to USD 1.2 billion announced last year. It aims to create economic opportunities in the impoverished Northern Triangle of El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras. She also announced ‘Central American Service Corps’ to mentor youngsters.

India and Vietnam signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on mutual logistics support, during the ongoing visit of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh to the Southeast Asian country.
The Defence Ministers also signed the ‘Joint Vision Statement on India-Vietnam Defence Partnership towards 2030’, which will enhance the scope and scale of existing defence cooperation.

Maruti Suzuki India has set up a Asia’s largest carport –type 20 MegaWatt Peak (MWp) solar power plant at its Manesar-based manufacturing facility.
The initiative will contribute 28,000 MW per annum, which is equivalent to the energy required for production of over 67,000 cars annually. The company’s combined solar power generation capacity stands at 26.3 MWp. A solar carport is an overhead shade parking area shelter with solar panels.

The Union Government has launched the Rashtriya Puruskar Portal for inviting nominations for various awards of the various Ministries and agencies.
The portal aims to ensure transparency and public partnership and to bring together all the awards under one digital platform. Nominations for Padma Awards are open till September 15, 2022 and for Sardar Patel National Unity Awards till the 31st July.

Indian Author Salman Rushdie was appointed a Companion of Honour by the United Kingdom for services to literature.
The 74-year-old author of ‘Midnight’s Children’ was named on the occasion of the four days of celebrations to mark the Queen’s platinum jubilee. He had earlier received a knighthood in 2007.
Companion of Honour is an exclusive club with membership limited to just 65 people at any given time, for services to literature.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh handed over a gift of USD 1 million to a Vietnamese Air Force training institute in Nha Trang and IT laboratory, during the final day of his three-day visit to Vietnam.
The Minister alsohanded over to Vietnam 12 high-speed guard boats built under a USD 100 million Line of Credit.
