Union External Affairs Minister of India S Jaishankar launched the country’s ‘Panchsheel’ principles for its campaign to secure an elected seat at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).
The Panchsheel (Five Principles) includes Samman (respect), Samvad (dialogue), Sahyog (cooperation), Shanti (peace) and Samriddhi (prosperity). The elections are scheduled to be held on June 17, this year. India is the only endorsed candidate of the Asia-Pacific Group. Once selected, this would be the 8th term for India at the UNSC.

The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) is an intergovernmental organization of 13 nations, headquartered in Vienna, Austria.
OPEC and allied nations including Russia are set to extend the cut in production of nearly 10 million barrels of oil a day till the end of July. This decision is expected to boost the price of oil which has been hit hard by Covid-19 crisis. Soon after they announced the decision, Oil prices rose more than 2%.

The Chief Minister of Jharkhand Hemant Soren has approved the Border Roads Organization (BRO) to recruit over 11,800 workers from the state for critical projects.
The projects include the critical areas including those near the China border in Ladakh for Operation Vijayak and in Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir. The state is also set to sign a first-of-its-kind memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the BRO to ensure welfare of all workers to be recruited in the future.

Adani Green Energy Limited (AGEL) has bagged one of world’s largest solar contract from Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI).
Under the contract, AGEL is to develop 8 GW of solar projects. It has also committed to establish 2 GW of additional solar cell and module manufacturing capacity at a cost of USD 6 billion (₹45,000 crore). With this contract, AGEL will have 15 GW capacity under operation, construction or under contract.

According to Mercer’s ‘2020 Cost of Living Survey’, Mumbai is the most expensive city of India, for expatriates.
It is also the 60th most expensive city for expatriates globally and it ranks 19th in Asia. In India, Mumbai is followed by New Delhi (101st globally) and Chennai (143rd globally). The global list was topped by Hong Kong, followed by Ashgabat of Turkmenistan. Tokyo and Zurich (Switzerland) are in the third and fourth positions, respectively.

Multinational professional services network Deloitte is partnering with Google cloud to help Indian firms in leveraging digital technology.
The firms have extended their global alliance to India to enable the Indian enterprises modernize cloud technology adoption. It will also provide solutions in field such as Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) and Contact Center AI.

A Central Public Sector Enterprise Under Department of Fertilizers, National Fertilizers Limited (NFL) has tied up with Industrial Training Institutes located near to its plants to train youth in several trades.
The partnership is expected to upskill the youth and to enhance their employability in heavy industries. NFL becomes first CPSE to start this initiative in Punjab, by signing an MoU with ITI, Nangal. The students will be trained under Dual System of Training Scheme where they will learn both theoretical skills and on-the-job training in Nangal plant.

Veteran economist and former member of the Planning Commission, A.Vaidyanathan recently passed away.
He served as a Chairperson of the Government of India Task Force on Revival of Cooperative Credit Institutions in 2004. He joined the National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER) in 1956. He also served in the Food and Agricultural Organisation, Rome. He played a crucial role in developing India’s statistical system and the National Sample Survey.

Notes:
The International Football Federation FIFA has released its global FIFA ranks recently. Belgium retained its top spot in the list.
Belgium is followed by France and Brazil. The fourth and fifth positions are occupied by England and Uruguay respectively. Indian football team has retained the 108th spot in the ranking. The Covid-19 pandemic has remained an obstacle to the staging of international matches and the ranking remains unchanged.

The Lieutenant Governor of Delhi Anil Baijal has constituted an Expert Advisory Committee to advise Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) related to COVID-19 management in Delhi.
The committee would advise on the challenges being faced in Delhi, suggest measures to develop medical infrastructure and to integrate measures of multiple agencies for effective curbing of Covid-19. The committee has Director General of ICMR and Director of AIIMS are among the members of the committee.
