The Union Ministry of Agriculture has obtained approval from DGCA for use of drones to implement Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY).
The Agriculture Ministry has planned to fly drones over 100 districts of the country to capture images of rice and wheat fields for assessing crop yields. It would also be used for claim settlement under the crop insurance scheme.

Notes:
Pakistan has decided to register Himalayan pink salt as Geographical Indications (GI), to curb the unauthorised use of the products by other countries.
The rare salt is extracted from the Salt Range in Punjab which extends along the mountains of Pakistan and the north of the Jhelum River. Pakistan is fighting a case in the European Union against India’s move to register Basmati rice as GI.

Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram received their statehood on February 20, 1987, following the 53rd Amendment of the Indian Constitution in 1986.
On 20th January 1972, the North East Frontier Agency (NEFA) was renamed as Union Territory of Arunachal Pradesh and on 20th February 1987 statehood was granted to Arunachal Pradesh. Mizoram was also a Union Territory from 1972 to 1987 before achieving statehood.

The Joint Conference of the 11th World Petro-Coal Congress and World Future Fuel Summit was organised in New Delhi.
Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan addressed the summit and highlighted the efforts of the country for green energy transition.

India’s star Tennis player Ankita Raina won her maiden WTA title along with her Russian partner Kamilla Rakhimova.
The duo clinched the doubles event in the Phillip Island Trophy in Melbourne. With this win, the 28-year-old Ankita can reach top-100 in the WTA rankings in doubles. She will be the second Indian woman player to be in top-100 after Sania Mirza.

CSC is a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) under the Ministry of Electronics and IT. It manages over 3.5 lakh common service centres (CSCs) across the country.
The CSC SPV has started a rural e-mobility programme, which urges people to switch to electric vehicles. The CSC e-Governance Services will facilitate loans for the purchase of electric vehicles. It will also focus on setting up charging infrastructure.

The Indian Coast Guard’s Interceptor Boats C-453 was commissioned recently in Chennai. This is the 17th vessel out of the 18 number of Interceptor Boats being indigenously built by Larsen & Toubro Ltd.
This vessel has a maximum speed of 45 knots (85 kmph) and is a versatile surveillance machine.

The Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh Shivraj Singh Chouhan has announced that the Hoshangabad city located in the state would be renamed as Narmadapuram.
This announcement was made by the CM during Narmada Jayanti programme held in the city. The proposal in this regard has been sent to the Union Government.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee Institute of Medical Sciences and Research at IIT Kharagpur via video conferencing.
It is a super speciality hospital, which has been set up by the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur with support from the Union Ministry of Education. The MBBS programme would start from the academic year 2021-22 along with postgraduate and doctoral programmes.

Notes:
The 30th Adriatic Pearl tournament was organised in Budva, Montenegro.
Indian Women’s team topped the tournament with 10 medals – 5 gold, 3 silver and 2 bronze. This was followed by Uzbekistan in second place and Czech Republic in third place. Among Indian women, the Indian women boxing team finished with 5 medals.
