Ladakh recently got its first ever FM radio station in its capital city Leh. The first-ever Top FM radio was launched in Leh.
The frequency for Leh & Kargil will be 91.1 FM and it will cover 50 kilometres aerial distance in radius in the Union Territory.

Researchers at IIT Delhi’s Kusuma School of Biological Sciences have developed an RT-PCR based kit for detection of the Omicron (B.1.1.529.1) variant of SARS-CoV-2.
The assay is based on detecting specific mutations, which are present in the Omicron variant and absent in other currently present variants of SARS-CoV-2. Globally, the detection of the Omicron variant requires over 3 days.

The Research Design and Standards Organization (RDSO), Ministry of Railways has been the first organisation to be Bureau of Indian Standards, under the BIS scheme of Standards Development Organizations (SDOs).
As per BIS Act 2016, BIS is empowered recognize or accredit any institution in India or outside which is engaged in standardization.

The Government of India has appointed Indian Army Chief General Manoj Mukund Naravane as Chairman of the Chiefs of Staff Committee, following the demise of General Bipin Rawat.
Here, the Government of India has adopted the old system of appointing a Chiefs of Staff Committee instead of the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS). Under the old system, the senior most among the chiefs among the armed forces would assume charge as Chiefs of Staff Committee.

World Arabic Language Day is observed on 18 December to honour the language, which is spoken by over 400 million people globally.
It has been celebrated since 2012 to mark the adoption of Arabic as the sixth official language of the United Nations by the UN General Assembly. This year, the theme of the World Arabic Language Day is “Arabic Language, a bridge between civilisations”.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh launched Rashtriya Ekta Geet composed by the National Cadet Corps (NCC) in 22 languages.
Rashtriya Ekta Geet is based on the theme of national integration. ‘Sanskritiyon ka Maha Sangam’ event was also conducted, where NCC cadets from across the country congregated in Delhi and showcased their shared cultural heritage.

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has signed a loan agreement with Assam Skill Development Mission for establishing Assam Skill University.
It will be set up under the external-aided project funded by the Asian Development Bank. The estimated cost of the project was USD 140 million, including the state’s share of 20 per cent. This will be first government skill university of Eastern India.

The Defence Research Development Establishment (DRDE) is to set up an advanced biological defence lab to study viruses dangerous to humans, at Madhya Pradesh’s Gwalior.
The proposed Advanced Biological Defence Research Centre (ABDRC) will focus on dangerous viruses, their effect on humans and it will come up with safeguards and develop equipment to fight them.

Goa Liberation Day is observed on December 19 every year to mark the success of ‘Operation Vijay’ undertaken by Indian armed forces.
Operation Vijay liberated Goa from Portuguese rule. Goa was ruled by the Portuguese for nearly a decade more, after India attained independence. The Portuguese also ruled Daman, Diu, Dadra, Nagar Haveli and Anjediva Island.

NASA has recently released noises captured near Jupiter’s moon Ganymede. Ganymede is also the largest moon in our solar system.
Ganymede also has its own magnetic field, which is not present in other moons of the solar system. NASA launched the Juno spacecraft, to observe Jupiter’s neighbourhood. Earlier this year, Juno captured Ganymede’s electromagnetic waves.
