V. Kalyanasundaram Mudaliarm and Bomanji Pestonji Wadia
The Madras Labour Union, India’s first labour union, was founded on 13th April, 1918, by V. Kalyanasundaram Mudaliarm and Bomanji Pestonji Wadia. As social reformers, they strived to improve working conditions and secure reasonable wages for the exploitation-prone workers in the textile industry. The Madras Labour Union marked a significant step in India’s labour movement, paving the way for organized labour advocacies in the country.
