Notes: The Integrated Development of Wildlife Habitats (IDWH) is a centrally sponsored scheme. It aims to provide financial assistance to victims of wild animals attack. It is provided in order to reduce any retaliatory killings of animals. These funds are also meant for voluntary relocation of villagers from within the protected areas and thereby reducing the human-animal conflict. The fund is also used for conservation of wild animals. The scheme has following three components: Support to Protected Areas (National Parks, Wildlife Sanctuaries, Conservation Reserves and Community Reserves); Protection of Wildlife outside Protected Areas & Recovery programmes for saving critically endangered species and habitats. The scheme supports activities like management planning and capacity building; anti-poaching and infrastructure development & restoration of habitats and Eco development and community-oriented activities. IDWH has helped in conservation and improvement of habitats of the critically endangered species like Asiatic lion, Snow leopard, Hangul, Manipur Brow-antlered deer, Nilgiri Tahr, Great Indian Bustard, Asian wild buffalo, Edible-nest Swiftlets, Vulture etc. Bengal tiger is currently on the endangered list.
