The proposed Eastern Rajasthan Canal Project (ERCP) is set to benefit 13 districts of Rajasthan through interlinking of three rivers. The project stipulates transfer of excess water from the Chambal River basin to the regions facing water scarcity.
Chambal River originates from the northern slopes of the Vindhya mountains in Madhya Pradesh. From Madhya Pradesh, it enters Rajasthan and then Uttar Pradesh. In UP it joins the Yamuna River in Etawah District. Banas, Kali Sindh, Sipra, Parbati, etc. are its tributaries. The National Chambal Sanctuary is located along the river Chambal.
