Harshavardhana (590-647 CE) - He was the first ruler who united large parts of northern India under his empire with Kannauj as his capital. He was a patron of arts and literature.
Yashovarman (725-752 CE) - He established the Gurjara-Pratihara dynasty with Kannauj as their capital. He expanded his kingdom through matrimonial alliances and military campaigns against rulers in Bengal and Deccan.
Mihira Bhoja (836–885 CE) - The most illustrious king of the Gurjara-Pratihara dynasty, he further consolidated the kingdom and resisted the Arabs. He was a great patron of arts, literature and architecture.
