Deosai Plateau is the second highest plateau in the world, with an average elevation of 13,497 ft (4,114 m) above sea level. It is located in the Astore and Skardu districts of Gilgit-Baltistan, in northern Pakistan. The word Deosai means "the land of giants".
The Deosai Plateau is part of the Deosai National Park, which is located in the western Himalayas. The park is a high-altitude alpine plateau that covers an area of 3,584 square kilometers.
The Deosai Plateau is home to the only stable population of the critically endangered Himalayan Brown Bear in the region. The park is also home to other wild animals, including red fox, golden marmot, Sind ibex, wolf, the Ladakh urial, and the snow leopard.
