Rarh region of West Bengal predominantly consists of red soil. The Rarh region covers around 62% of the total geographical area of West Bengal. It spans across western parts of the state. The characteristic soil type found here is red laterite soil. This well-drained red soil is rich in iron and aluminum oxides. It develops on ancient rocks in tropical and humid conditions. Supports crops like rice, jute, legumes, oilseeds etc when irrigated properly.
