The eastern gorilla (Gorilla beringei) is a critically endangered species of the genus Gorilla and the largest living primate. At present, the species is subdivided into two subspecies viz. Eastern Lowland Gorilla and Mountain Gorilla. There are two populations of Mountain Gorilla, One is found in the Virunga Mountains in eastern Africa and another population is found in Uganda's Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
