In Sri Lanka, there is a 'great scripture' on Buddhist practice and Theravada Abhidhamma written by Buddhaghosa in the 5th century. This is a manual presentation and sorting of a 5th-century understanding and interpretation of the Buddhist path created by the elders of the Mahavihara Math in Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka.
It is considered the most important Theravada text outside the Tipitaka doctrine the texts and has been described as "the center of a complete and coherent interpretation of Tipitaka".
