Virunga National Park is located in the Albertine Rift Valley, part of the Democratic Republic of Congo. It lies adjacent to Semliki River Valley and the Rwenzori Mountains. In 1994, this national park is listed in the List of World Heritage in Danger. Two major active volcanoes such as Mount Nyiragongo and Mount Nyamuragira are located in this park. Species endemic to Albertine Rift such as the eastern gorilla and golden monkey are located in this national park. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and Ramsar Wetland. It is located in the Congo-Nile watershed area in which Semuliki and the Rwenzori Mountains National Park of Uganda and Volcanoes National Park of Rwanda lie near to it.
