Notes: The first sermon Buddha gave to the five monks was called the Dhammacakkappavattana Sutta. It is also called the Setting in Motion of the Wheel of Dharma, the Buddha first spelt out the Four Noble Truths and the Noble Eightfold Path. It was given on the full-moon day of Asalha Puja. Buddha subsequently also spent his first rainy season at Sarnath at the Mulagandhakuti. In His First Sermon, the Buddha said, "I teach one thing and one thing only: suffering and the end of suffering,” which is the ultimate goal of Buddhism.
