Notes: The delta formed by the Krishna River along with the delta formed by the Godavari River is called Rice Granary of South India. Krishna River is 1300 Kilometers long. It is the fourth largest river in India. It originates in the Western Ghats near Mahabaleshwar at an elevation of about 1,300 metres, in the state of Maharashtra in central India. River Godavari is sacred river and there are several places of pilgrimage on its banks. Trimbakeshwar and Nasik are major pilgrimage sites where one of the four Simhastha Kumbh Mela takes place. Measuring up to 312,812 kilometres square, it forms one of the largest river basins in the Indian subcontinent, with only the Ganges and Indus rivers having a drainage basin larger than it.
