Malik Muhammad Jayasi
Padmavat is a notable piece of Sufi literature from the period in which it was written, around 1540. The Awadhi language poem was penned by the Sufi poet Malik Muhammad Jayasi. Although it features historical figures like Delhi Sultan Alauddin Khalji and Ratan Sen, the titular character, Padmavati, queen of Chittor, is likely a fictional character. The poem relates an allegorical tale of Alauddin Khalji's desire for Padmavati.
