- Anuvrata literally means 'small or partial vows'. The Anuvrata movement was started by Acharya Tulsi in 1949. It advocates practicing compassion and self-discipline in one's daily life through observation of small vows. These vows are the ethical codes of conduct derived from the principles of ahimsa, truthfulness, non-stealing etc.
- However, Anuvrata does not allow laxity in following these vows. In fact, the practice of Anuvrata requires diligent adherence to the prescribed vows in thought, words and action in one's daily conduct. There is no laxity permitted.
