Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania
Researchers from North America and Kenya conducted a genetic survey of cyanobacteria in the Winam Gulf of Lake Victoria, Kenya. Lake Victoria is the world's second-largest freshwater lake, located in East Africa and bordered by Tanzania, Uganda, and Kenya. It is also known as Victoria Nyanza (Kenya), Nalubaale (Uganda), and Ukerewe (Tanzania). The lake is the source of the White Nile, which merges with the Blue Nile in Sudan to form the Nile River. It supports the largest freshwater fishery globally, producing 1 million tons of fish annually and sustaining 4 million livelihoods.
