Kuchipudi is an indigenous dance form of Andhra Pradesh that originated and flourished in the village of the same name, its original name being Kuchelapuri or Kuchelapuram, a town in Krishna district. Since its origins in the 3rd century BC, it has left its murky remnants, a continuing and living dance tradition of the region. The birth of Kuchipudi art is associated with religions similar to that of most Indian classical dances. For a long time this art was performed only in temples and that too on the occasion of annual festivals in some temples of Andhra Pradesh.
