King Manavvedan of Kozhikode composed the art form Krishnanattam (literally known as the Dance of Krishna). King Manavavedan wrote the Krishna Gita based on the Gita Govindam of the famous poet Jayadeva. In Sanskrit, this work depicts the story of Lord Krishna and the art form Krishnanattam is derived from it. It is a colorful dance-drama tradition of Kerala that originated in the mid-17th century. Based on the works of Krishna Geeti, it is an eight-day carnival that tells the life story of Lord Krishna for eight consecutive nights in the temple.
