An Indian Air Force havildar and his 14-year-old son were recently swept away by strong currents in the Kameng River. The Kameng River is a major tributary of the Brahmaputra River, flowing through Arunachal Pradesh and Assam. In Assam, it is known as "Jia Bharali" and sometimes as Bhareli. The river originates in the Tawang district from a glacial lake beneath Gori Chen Mountain at 6,300 meters. It flows through several districts and merges with the Brahmaputra at Tezpur. The river is 264 kilometers long and supports diverse ethnic communities like the Monpa, Sherdukpen, and Aka tribes.
