They are unique among camel breeds for their ability to swim in seawater, reaching distances of up to 3 kilometers while foraging on mangrove plants. This breed is one of nine recognized in India, and the Camel Development Scheme in Rajasthan supports camel breeders financially to promote breeding efforts.
