Pandita Ramabai Sarasvati, was a women's rights & education activist, a pioneer in the education and emancipation of women in India, and a social reformer. She founded Arya Mahila Samaj. She was the first woman to be awarded the titles of Pandita. Calcutta University conferred on her the titles of Pandita and Sarasvati in recognition of her knowledge of various Sanskrit works. She was awarded with the Kaisari-i-Hind Medal for community service in 1919, awarded by the British Colonial Government of India.
Savitribai Phule was the social reformer of the 19th Century, born in Maharashtra. She was a pioneer of women's education in the country. She published Kavya Phule in 1854 and Bavan Kashi Subodh Ratnakar in 1892. In her poem, Go, Get Education, she urges the oppressed communities to get an education and break free from the chains of oppression. In 1852, Savitribai started the Mahila Seva Mandal to raise awareness about women’s rights.
