Q. Who among the following Mughal emperors had been killed by his ambitious nobles?
Answer: Farrukhsiyar
Notes: After only a short reign of 5 years, Bahadur Shah died. There was another war of succession. At this point, a new element entered into the Mughal politics. Earlier, the competition was mainly between Mughal princes and ambitious nobles merely took sides. Now, ambitious nobles leading various factions directly contended for power and used Mughal princes as puppets. For example, weak and degenerated Jahandar Shah was elevated to the throne by an ambitious noble, Zulfiqar Khan. After defeating Jahandar Shah, Farrukh Siyar came to the throne. He was aided by the Saiyid brothers- Abdullah Khan and Husain Ali Khan- in this adventure. They became his wazir and mir-bakshi respectively. Soon, a struggle for power started between them and the mutual distrust increased so much that the Saiyid brothers had to kill him. This was the first instance when an Emperor was done away by an ambitious nobles i.e. Saiyid brothers- Abdullah and Husain Ali Khan. So, statement 2 and 3 are incorrect.
