Q. Consider the following statements:
- Rudradaman belong to the lineage of Indo-Greek kings who ruled over Western India.
- Rudradaman constructed the Rudradaman Lake in the semi-arid are of Kathiawar for the purpose of irrigation.
Which of the statements given above is/are correct?
Answer:
Neither 1 nor 2
Notes: Rudradaman was a Shaka ruler of Western India. Shakas had come after Indo-Greeks. There were five branches of Shakas with their seats of power in different parts of India and Afghanistan. Rudradaman, a Shaka ruler, ruled over Sindh, Kutch and Gujarat. He also snatched Narmada Valley, Konkan and Malwa from the Satvahanas. So, statement 1 is wrong. Rudradaman had repaired the Sudarshan Lake that had existed since the Mauryan period. He also issued the long inscription in chaste Sanskrit that has been found near the lake. On the basis of this inscription, we come to know about the history of the lake and Rudradaman's contribution to it. So, statement 2 is also wrong.
