The Ganges river enters Bangladesh about 50 km below Farakka and tributaries such as Mahananda, Punarbhaba, Atrai (Boral) and Karatoya, which originate in India, join the Ganges river on its left side. The river joins the Brahmaputra river further downstream, near Goalanda Ghat in Bangladesh as the Padma and further down the combined discharge joins the Meghna river at Chandpur. The combined stream is called the Meghna river.
