Project RE-HAB

Project RE-HAB is an initiative by KVIC (Khadi and Village Industries Commission) to reduce man-animal conflict. It is a sub-mission under the National Honey Mission. RE-HAB or Reducing Elephant – Human Attacks using Bees makes use of ‘bee fences’ i.e. bee boxes to prevent elephants from entering human habitations and causing damage. The project, worth 15 lakh INR, makes use of 15 to 20 bee boxes connected together by strings. When the elephant attempts to cross the fence, the tug on the string causes the bees to swarm towards the elephant herds, dissuading from proceeding further down the path.
